So this week saw the West Ham end of season awards. No surprise really who scooped most of the awards, with Dimitri Payet taking home an incredible five trophies! It really is a testament to the man, and the impact he has had on the club, fans and fellow players that he was awarded with Hammer of the Year voted by the fans, and also Player’s player of the year.
However, nothing should be taken away from the team as a whole. As a unit they have been outstanding. This is the best West Ham side I’ve seen in my lifetime. It really is a joy to see. After so many years of mid-table obscurity to relegation, this turnaround has been magnificent. Credit must go to the owners, David’s Gold and Sullivan who saved our club from the brink almost, and have created this wonderful, bright promising future. The Olympic Stadium move will just escalate the club to new heights, it’ll provide our team with a massive platform to showcase what a fantastic club we are. Just welcome new fans into our family, to see our team go on European tours (hopefully!).
This season has been beyond my wildest expectation. At the start of the season I gave my prediction for ReadWestHam.com
“Following our exit from the Europa League, it may be assumed that our Premier League season should be better now as a result of a much less gruelling schedule than there could have been if we’d progressed through Europe. I think we’ll finish around mid table this season. Hopefully we can improve on last seasons position to show that we are moving forward. I’m very excited about Payet and what he’ll bring us in terms of creativity in the campaign ahead. It will be a tough season with the teams around us all strengthening well over the summer so it is essential we hit the ground running in the early stages of the competition.
Predicted Finish : 9th”
Overall, this season has been a great success, and we’ve performed beyond my wildest expectations. Of course going out of Europe was disappointing, but we came back very strongly and in great style with our win away at Arsenal on the opening day of the season. Other massive results against the supposed ‘big teams’ helped us off to a great start.
That form continued, aided by the incredible form of Dimiti Payet, who’s signing has been a total revelation to the whole side who seemed to feed of the buzz around Payet. Even in the mid-season, when we were without Dimitri, as a team we played well. We held on to draws, kept getting points. Something we had never really done before.
Other signings like Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio have gone under the radar due to Payet’s scintillating form, but they really have helped the team get to this stage. Another case to make is of Mark Noble. A West Ham legend. The Canning Town born man has been our rock once again, and in my opinion, should be deserving of an England call up. It’s sad that he may never get his cap whereas some have who are a lot less deserving.
All in all, the season has been incredible, and if we can keep the push up for the last 3 games of the season then we should secure a European place heading into the stadium move. All signs are looking up. What a season West Ham. Thank you.
